Thomas Russell Watch Serial Numbers

Hi, does nayone no anything about this timepiece, I've been told by a friend that he think sit's from around 1914, but Ihave no idea how to get to the movement, it looks like the front may have to come out to do that and as it's not my watch I don't want to risk it. OK First: Thomas Russell was first listed as a watchmaker in Liverpool around 1848. He was a maker of some repute in the mid-19th century, but by the 1880s the company was mainly an importer of movements from Switzerland. Russell was a company that sourced movements and cases from where ever they could get them at a good price. Remember back in those days 'retailers' rather than manufacturers put their names on watches. Your watch is a 1914-1917 'Borgel' cased watch, with a 'pin step' for setting the hands Francois Borgel (1856 - 1912) was a famous watch case designer that made the FIRST 'sealed' watch (hermetic) It is very unique in that the movement SCREWS INTO the case. You will find that the crystal (glass) front bezel will UNscrew if you pull out and hold out the winding crown.

The movement will be UNscrewing out with the bezel, but you MUST hold out the crown FULLY. If you have never done this, I do not reccomend you do it. I have a lot of Borgel watches and can answer most if not all the history.

The watch will be silver or gold and surely 1915 period. Regards adam. Just spoke to the watch owner, it turns out that the person he purchased from did clarify the watch is silver with the hallmarks on the inside of the case and that there was also a date of 1914 in there -, just to also clarify the watch does work. So I guess it's worth a minimum of $150, I'll tell the owner that. Thanks Yes I KNEW it HAD to be silver or Gold.

Only way they were EVER made 1914 is a VERY early surviving model, I think only a few are known before that, mine is 1915. It should be worth a bit more than $150 may be up to $250. I personally love it.
